Lane College proudly celebrated the induction of twenty-six exceptional scholars into the Honors Program for Spring 2026, recognizing their academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to the long-standing tradition of scholarship that defines the institution.

While Lane College has consistently recognized and cultivated high academic achievement across various disciplines, the Honors Program marks a formal elevation of that commitment through a structured pathway for scholars who exemplify discipline, intellectual rigor, and servant leadership.
Dr. Candace Jones, Associate Professor of Biology, stated the significance of such an event, “At Lane College, we proudly recognize the dedication and achievements of our scholars. Celebrating their accomplishments shows our students that they are seen, valued, and supported. By elevating academic excellence, we inspire them to continue growing, excelling, and shaping the future they are meant to lead.”

Distinguished alumna, Valeanna Elliott, delivered the keynote address, inspiring Lane scholars with her journey of dedication, faith, and purpose.
Elliott, a 2022 graduate of Lane College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a 4.0 GPA, made history as the first Lane alum to complete the University of Tennessee Health Science Center's accelerated BSN program in one year, and as the first Partnership Enrollment Program (PEP) student to use the Bridge Program for entry into the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). She now pursues her DNP with dual specializations as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
Speaking to the scholars, Elliott emphasized perseverance, faith, and embracing challenges as steppingstones to success. Her story embodies the scholar-servant leadership that Lane cultivates in each and every student.
Interim President, Dr. Donald W. Comer, stated, “Lane's Honors College stands as a visible commitment to academic excellence at Lane College. It signals to the world that our students are not only capable of high achievement. They are disciplined scholars who choose excellence every single day.”
The Spring 2026 induction signifies more than the launch of a program; it represents Lane College staking claim to the next level of academic distinction while building upon a legacy of recognizing excellence in its scholars.
Once again, we congratulate the Spring 2026 Honors Program inductees and celebrate the legacies they are continuing to build. At Lane College, we remain committed to cultivating scholars, empowering leaders, and shaping the future, one remarkable achievement at a time.
