Lane College delivered a powerful presence at the Memphis Grizzlies HBCU Night, showcasing the spirit, talent, and leadership that defines the institution. From the pre-game mixer to the halftime spotlight, the Dragons made their mark on a night dedicated to celebrating the legacy and future of historically Black colleges and universities.
Dr. Anthony T. Williams Jr., Vice President for Student Affairs, was a featured panelist during the Grizzlies’ Pre-Game Mixer Panel Discussion. Representing Lane College with clarity and conviction, Dr. Williams highlighted the College’s commitment to student success, community engagement, and the collaborative duty that we each carry for the continued evolution of HBCUs.

“HBCUs are here to stay. Our students don’t have to carry the burden of creating spaces where they feel they belong. The campus itself is that space, built for them and rooted in their success,” said Dr. Williams. “For anyone considering college, whether starting for the first time or returning to finish a degree, I encourage you to explore and advocate for HBCUs. Recruitment is everyone’s responsibility, not just those who work at these institutions.”
The night continued with a dynamic halftime performance from the Lane College Quite Storm Drumline that brought the crowd to its feet. Their sound carried the signature energy of excellence reminding everyone why HBCU bands remain cultural cornerstones of school pride and community celebration.
Lane College extends its appreciation to the Memphis Grizzlies for hosting an event that uplifts tradition, celebrates excellence, and amplifies the voices of HBCU communities.
